Important Tips


  • Diplomatic, special or ordinary passport holders don't need a visa to enter (Kurdistan Region) but must pay a fee upon arrival at Erbil International Airport or register via the Kurdistan Region website.

  • Diplomatic, private, and regular passport holders need entry visas to Iraq, which must be obtained from the nearest diplomatic mission to Iraq (before departure).

  • To avoid accusations, you should inform the customs officer at the airport about any cash amounts in your possession before he discovers them.

  • Make sure your passport is valid.

  • Traveling with small amounts of cash is recommended, and it is important to keep receipts from exchange offices.

  • Keep your passport number and ID card for reference when visiting the mission in case your passport is lost.

  • Adhere to travel conditions and international aviation rules; do not bring forbidden items; follow the laws and regulations of the host country.

  • Gold jewelry and other valuables are not recommended to be brought on a trip.

  • Keep the phone numbers of the Qatari Embassy in Baghdad and the Qatari Consulate General in Erbil on hand in case of emergency. 

  • Under no circumstances are the passport or identification card to be mortgaged with any party.

  • Keeping official documents such as passports, airline tickets, and valuable personal belongings in safe places.

  • In the unlikely case of an emergency, the closest Qatari embassy or consulate must be contacted, and the relevant authorities informed of the nature of the problem.

  • In any situation, you are obligated to notify the state mission as soon as possible if you become the subject of an inquiry.

  • Verify the authority of anybody who requests identification from you.
